Light Visions

Time to welcome in my favorite season! Fall is such a wonderful time of the year or at least it is where I live. I was getting in the fall spirit when I found this super cute little orange gnome and leaf tea light holder at my local Walmart. Of course I just had to set up an area with them to do some lovely fall readings. The deck I found myself grabbing was this gorgeous pocket Light Visions Tarot. They are a the perfect colors for fall in my opinion. The deep purple mixed with cream and then the gold edging….gosh just so beautiful.

These cards come in a sturdy metal box that allows me to toss in my purse and not be worried about my cards getting damaged. Let’s face it if you see me around town know that I have at least one tarot and one oracle deck in my bag. You just never know when you will decide to do a reading or have someone ask you to give them a reading.

The box itself is just as gorgeous as the cards inside as you can see in the video below.

When you open the box you are greeted with a simple single page containing key words for each card to act as guidebook. Which is perfect for if you need just a quick little reminder while you are out and about (If I am not mistaken their full sized decks come with a book if you are wanting a full tangible guidebook).

Fear not, I know some of you kinda panicked when you saw that in the video. A lot of people like having a full book and the best part about James’ decks are they have an app that contains the complete book for each of their decks ready at your fingertips. The app costs just a few dollars (3 or 4 I believe) and then you have access to all of the Vision decks guidebooks. It is super easy to use and I absolutely love it. Highly reccomend getting the app even if you have the full sized books.

Now let’s get into these gorgeous cards. This deck is actually new to me. Though I have had them on my wishlist for forever it seems I just could never decide between the Prisma and the Light version. Turns out I was able to buy both and the oracle deck for just a little over what I would spend on one of the regular ones. Day made! Now to getting to know them.

The cards are thick and durable. They actually shuffle great for a pocket deck. Now I understand that the issues I have shuffling pocket decks are the cards are so little and my hands so big I struggle a bit so some of you may have absolutely no issues.

Don’t get me started on the edging. gosh they are a lovely gold metallic which shines so perfectly while it acts as the perfect accent to the deep purple and cream art.

The backs of cards have the infamous eye surrounded by what seems like a squiggly maze almost. The border on the backs of the cards matches the one on the front which I really like. The border looks almost like an old wooden frame which is an esthetic I really enjoy.

Now we all know the one of the biggest attractions to this deck is how James literally made each suits a picture cut into pieces. Each picture tells the story of that suit and it breaks down perfectly into individual cards. I absolutely love them. The details are just so beautiful. I have taken a picture of some cards that really stood out to me.

The Eight of Swords is one of the first ones that came to mind. Now traditionally this card has a person tied up in some light rope or fabric and a blind fold thinking that they are stuck even though they have the swords beside them that could easily set them free. In this deck James took it a step further in a way that really speaks to me personally because sometimes I can tell myself in the traditional reading that there is something I cannot see and because my vision is impaired which can sometimes make me feel really hopeless, where this card shows that the person is curled up in a ball all in their feelings feeling helpless when all they need to do is get up and walk away. It completely calls me out and is so blunt in what I need to do. I absolutely love it.

Now when it comes to the pentacles the whole picture really is amazing and just walks you through the steps. In my favorite tarot deck (my first ever tarot deck so I am a little biased) the Three of Pentacles is shown as three pentacles over mountains signifying a hard trip ahead but a view that is worth the work getting there. Though that specific deck speaks to the adventurer in me so so so so clearly I understand how some people overthink it when it comes to putting into a real life situation. James has taken this and shown it in a much simpler more down to earth way that I feel really helps put it into perspective. This man is literally building a wall and he is having to take his time so that the stones set before moving on to the next one. He is having to plot ahead of time so that he is set up to make the stones go around the rounded top of the window. He is having to see what he has to worth with and plan his steps and take his time to make sure his work will last lifetimes. He is skipping no steps and has made sure he has a solid foundation.

James has put so much hard work into this deck that it is just so amazing. Every card I pull is beautiful and speaks without having to read a book to understand it. In this Three of Chalices is shows three people dancing in what looks like a little leaf tornado…. Seriously reminds me of how I chose my friends when I was younger and made me sit down to try and figure out if I even have any friends as an adult who would dance with me like that? It is defiantly time to connect more with the childlike side of my friends. We need it.

In this Seven of Wands if this doesn’t make you think of becoming a ninja I don’t know what will. It immediately made me want to self evaluate the way I live and to start focusing on a better path. To really focus on where I am going and know that yes it will be hard work but dang Ima be a ninja. (Couldn’t help but giggle a little at myself about that)

Now as for the Major Arcana, again the art work is just so beautiful. I had a heard time narrowing the cards down to just a couple to talk about but The Hermit ended up being one of my all time favorites. Now usually a Hermit card has an older male looking person in a cloak holding a staff with the star in it. Very wizardry vibes love it; howeverrrr this deck is just so perfect at least to my specific healing journey. James chose to depict this card using a gorgeous river in the woods that has a little bridge to cross over it. The bridge is in the distance though and we are at the river at night simply standing in a grassy patch in the middle of the river. Just standing there. For my whole life if I am feeling overwhelmed or depressed or anxious or restless the place I find that grounds me is usually a spot just like this. If I want to go find somewhere quiet to study or just talk to spirit the place I pick will look a lot like this picture. It really makes it easier to put yourself in the position of the card. You understand it is time to have you time and so on and so forth. In my opinion this is the best Hermit card out there (at least that I have seen to date).

Ok let’s take a minute and look at just one more card. Normally the World card is super basic card. Traditionally the card will have all the correct elements in corners and there will be something that looks like a thick rope and a dude in the middle. Nothing bad to say about that kind of set up but I feel that James once again took this card and brought it to a whole other level. In this deck the different parts swirl into one signifying that you have learned how to balance/master all of those areas up to this point anyway and that you are ready to sit and enjoy this journey, look back at everything you have accomplished and get ready for the next journey your life has waiting for you. I find it a beautiful way to end the Major Arcana and am so glad that he chose this way to depict them.

All in all I love this deck and am so glad that I added it to my library. I do have both versions of this deck both in the pocket edition. That being said, someday I plan on doing a review of the oracle deck that James made to go with these decks and when I do that I will add a video of the Prisma Visions deck if you would like.
